Mother Culture...There She Is!!!

Well...over the summer I had to read Ishmael by Daniel Quinn for my AP class. It is a very good book, and short, i highly recommend it, especially if you like thought provoking reads.

Anyway a main theme or idea in Ishmael is Mother Culture. And what Mother Culture is, is the voice/story that our civilization follows without even realizing we are doing it. And thanks to a friends blog and recent events of JK Rowling announcing Dumbledore is/was gay, I got the idea for this blog.

Why is it that we let society and our peers think for us? Why cant we make our own decisions? And why is it that if someone has a different view from everyone else, they are labeled in a usually cruel manor by their peers? Things like this are what stops new ideas from rising, if people are afraid of what their peers will think they'll keep their mouth shut! And its also why some people dont know their friends as well as they thought.

Most people are hardly their full self at all times. Probably each part that you may see are a part of the person yet with different people another part shows and in different situations. And unless a person is 100% comfortable with another, I think they will never be themselves.

Hmmm...thats it i guess.

That is very true. If we lived in a perfect world, everyone would be themselves, but alas, we don't.
Oh, and I like your new layout! :)
